Jaipur, the City of Castles and Palaces

You just cannot miss visiting Jaipur, the city of castles and palaces. The city is easily accessible by road from Delhi as it is at a distance of 268 kilometers away. Driving on the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway is a breeze as you drive at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

The first place to visit would be the Jal Mahal, a structure that seems to float on water. Then of course you have the City Palace and the Hawa Mahal a superstructure that allows cool air to flow into the building. but then, you have many more places to visit in Jaipur apart from shopping for knick-knacks. You might be surprised to know that Jaipur has the distinction of having two of the largest water containers made of sterling Silver that can hold 4000 liters of Water, and it also has what might be one the largest canons in the world.

The Amer Fort and Jaigarh Forts are at a great height and the Jai Van Canon is located at the Jaigarh Fort. There is a foundry at the Jai Garh Fort where all these canons were forged in-house.

The Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur is another fort worth visiting. It was built in 1734 as a retreat or resting place for the King and his many wives, it is full of back alleys and hidden corridors that allowed the King to visit his paramours and then slip out without being noticed!

The City Palace in the center of the city is yet another palace that the visitor needs to visit. It was built in 1592 by Sawai Jai Singh. It has a pavilion that was built to welcome visitors. The City Palace also displays two Silver Urns made of Sterling Silver that store 4000 liters of water. Silver, incidentally has anti-bacterial qualities.
